Uganda Joins One Telecommunications Network Area

Uganda joined her neighbours (Kenya and Rwanda) as a third member of the One Telecommunications Network Area. This implies all calls, irrespective of which Telecom operator in their countries, are charged as local calls as of 2nd January, 2015. This initiative is in line with the decisions made by the Heads of States during the Northern Corridor Integration Projects Initiative (NCIPI) Summit last year.

The implementation of the One Network Area is expected to significantly reduce the cost of making calls and hence lower the cost of doing business in the region. The Republic of South Sudan which is the fourth member of NCIPI will soon join the One Network Area.
